Also we were at the Coquitlam Ukulele club (CUTIE) performances at Coquitlam Town Centre Park amphitheater on Sunday May 12th.   We (both Kerry and I) manned a booth/tent to show off instruments made and some under construction. We had a storyboard set up as well (thanks to Terry and his photos).  I played a solo on the Uke and then on the Mandolin to officially launch our tree2music full circle vision.

Three Luthiers are now on-board and building instruments:  Larry Parks; Kerry-Lee Werry; and Mic Dunsmore !!    We are still looking for others to join in - Contact us and GET INVOLVED.

Trees are being cut down for a major water main project in Coquitlam BC, but we can still give them a new life.   Some of the wood will be turned into beautiful musical instruments by local Luthiers, and talented musicians from our community will potentially be able to play them in a concert at the Town Centre Park for everyone to enjoy !!

Rules for our Trees to Instrument Project

  1. Wood will be supplied free to the luthier/woodworker (i.e.: Ukulele/Guitar: typical maple for back/sides/necks and cedar for tops and bracing or similar, some large cedar pieces for carving are also available) – all viable participants will need to discuss their intent (project type) with our Project Leader before wood can be picked-up here in Coquitlam.

  2. Our project wood must make up a significant part of the resulting instrument/woodwork (with acknowledgement that there is a need/desire to add other accoutrements like frets, tuners, strings, trim, etc. from other sources at your cost).

  3. All initial (from the wood on hand as of March 2024) wood projects are to be completed by July 1, 2024.

  4. All instruments/woodwork produced must be made available for:

    • Presentation/display at public spaces in the Coquitlam area (as a minimum July 2024 to December 2024)

    • Use as the musical instrument by a player or yourself to demonstrate its use, etc. in a public space in the Coquitlam area.

    • At least 50% of the instruments we make as part of this project are to be ultimately donated to a local music organization (school, music club, or similar).

  5. Your preferred personal/corporate name is to be made public (i.e. on website or announcement brochures, etc.) throughout the project duration.

Check out "The Process" tab/page for a detailed storyline so far !!!

About Us

We are a passionate group of individuals dedicated to turning a negative situation into something positive. Our goal is to preserve the beauty of our forests by transforming the wood from the major water main project into stunning musical instruments and other wood art, etc.. We believe in the power of music to bring people together and inspire positive change.

Our Project

Our project involves working with local luthiers to create musical instruments from the wood that would otherwise go to waste. We are proud to support our community by providing work to these skilled craftsmen and women, and we look forward to sharing the beautiful instruments they create with the world.

Donate

We are not set up for Donations at this time.

Get Involved

We welcome anyone who shares our passion for music, sustainability, and community involvement. Whether you're a musician, a craftsman, or simply want to help out, there are many ways to get involved with our wood working project. Contact us to learn more.
